Free Sci-Fi/Fantasy E-Books

This may not be so interesting for those of you 1.) uninterested in science fiction or fantasy and/or 2.) living near a public library in the United States, but as part of some promotion (revamping their website or something or other), if you go and sign up at www.tor.com (they ask for very little, just a name, an email, zip code, and age), they'll send you a free e-book every week (for 12 weeks, I believe). It comes pdf and I've heard (on Slashdot, of course) no DRM. The first book is Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson, who is the author slated to finish off Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series.

Have you read any of the e-books? I signed up and they sent me a big pdf, but I'm not sure I want to read it on-screen.

Reading is the only time during the day my eyes get to focus on something that's not backlit.

Hi Doug.

I've read two books now. I generally don't like to read long things on the screen either, but I thought it was surprisingly easy. Both the first two books are fast reads, so I didn't spend endless amounts of time in front of the computer. Also they're formatted such that even on my 13 inch laptop screen, I could get a whole page (or two) on the the screen with large enough type so I didn't have to strain to see the words.
